There are three ways to get out of a perps position: close it fully, close part of it, or reverse it.
Close the whole position
From the chart, use the position action and confirm. The app asks "Close {market} position?" and explains that partial closes are available from the positions table. Confirming sends a market order for your full size, so the fill price can differ slightly from the last price you saw.
Close part of a position
Open the Positions table and use Close on the row. The close panel lets you:
- enter the amount you want to close (it must be greater than 0), and
- close at market, or use Place Limit Order to close at a price you choose — including setting the limit price from mid or from a percentage offset.
A limit close only completes if the market trades at your price. Until it fills, the position stays open.
You can also close by placing a normal order in the opposite direction with Reduce Only enabled. Reduce-only requires an existing position on the opposite side and cannot exceed its size, so it can never accidentally open new exposure.
Reverse a position
Reverse closes your position and opens the same size in the opposite direction in one market order — the confirmation shows the exact order, for example "Market order: Sell 2.5 SOL." Reversing needs enough available margin for the new position; if you do not have it, the confirm button is disabled with the reason shown. You can tick "Don't show this confirmation again" if you reverse often.
Closing several positions at once
The positions table also supports closing a group of positions. Each close is submitted individually, so the result message may report that some succeeded and others failed — re-check the table afterwards.
When closing is blocked
- Frozen market — positions in a market labelled FROZEN cannot be closed until trading resumes.
- Post-only market — market orders are unavailable while a market is in post-only mode, so use a limit close on the maker side.
- Geo restriction — if perps trading is not available in your jurisdiction, order entry including closes is blocked.
- Market data unavailable — if market info or a bid/ask cannot be loaded, the close panel cannot price the order; refresh and try again.
After closing
Your realized result appears in Closed trades (with entry, close and realized P&L) and in trade history, which you can export as CSV. Closing a position does not cancel TP/SL triggers or resting orders for that market automatically — check your open orders if you had any.
